Federal State Educational Institution of Higher Education "Saint-Petersburg State University of Civil Aviation", as the legal successor of the Higher Aviation School of Civil Aviation, created in 1955 by decree of the Government of the USSR, the Supreme Civil Aviation School and the Order of Lenin Civil Aviation Academy, is a leading educational institution of industry.

During the period of its activity the University has trained more than 30,000 managers and highly qualified specialists for our country, civil aviation and other transport sectors, sectors of the economy and public life.

Currently, the University trained over 10 thousand students and cadets, including 13 basic educational programs of higher education - more than 7500 students, more than 800 students from the countries of near and far abroad, and secondary vocational education – 2600 students and cadets . The system of supplementary professional education each year receive advanced training and retraining of up to 3500 people.

During the period of its activity the University has prepared for civil aviation more than 30 thousand Managers and highly qualified specialists. Over the years, Higher Aviation School – Academy of Civil Aviation – University of Civil Aviation graduated: the Soviet Union Civil Aviation Minister: B. Bugaev and B. Panyukov; Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation V. Okulov; 11 First Deputy and Deputy Minister of Civil Aviation of the USSR A. Nazarov, A. Popov, K. Gulakov, V. Kolosov, I. Vasin, N. Bykov, Y. Yurkin, L. Ilchuk, A. Goryashko, A. Semenko B. Grubiy; four heads of federal Civil Aviation Administration: A. Larin, G. Zaitsev, V. Zamotan, K. Rupel; President of the Republic of Lithuania in 2003-2004. Rolandas Paksas; 21 head of the main offices and departments of the central apparatus of the USSR Ministry of Civil Aviation, the various federal government agencies in the field of air transport; 52 head of the territorial (district, regional, interregional) Civil Aviation Departments, as well as the Civil Aviation educational institutions.

About 5 thousand graduates became heads of airlines and airports, more than a thousand – the heads of units and air traffic control services. Thousands of graduates of government awards and breast signs, more than 200 were awarded the honorary title "Honored Pilot", "Honored Navigator", "Honored Worker of Transport", 29 graduates of the high rank of the Hero of the Soviet Union, Hero of Socialist Labor Hero of Russia.
